Lee, Cindy and Jacqui of Blu*3 Up to early 2008, Blu*3 was the undisputed all-girl popular music group in Uganda. It comprised (left to right) Lee (Lillian Mbabazi), Cindy (Cinderella Sanyu) and Jacqui Chandiru. Blu*3 formed after its members won the Coca Cola Popstars competition in 2004. Backed by producer Steve Jean, it quickly established itself as one of the country's top acts. The group's first hit, Hitaji , won it the Video of the Year prize in the Pearl of Africa Music Awards, 2005. The groups other big hits include Sanyu Lyange and Burrn . In early 2008, the group was renamed "Blu3" - without the star - after Cindy left in unclear circumstances. According to the other members of the group, Cindy left to pursue a solo career. But Cindy told the media that she asked for time off to take a holiday in Spain, only to be kicked out by the group.
Cindy has since been replaced by Mya Baganda, formerly with Obsessions and Kombat Dancers. It remains to be seen how she will fit in and how the group will fare without one of its original members. Meanwhile, Cindy has not wasted time launching her solo career. Her first single, Mbikooye, was released in August 2008 and a 14-track album, featuring collaborations with Bebe Cool, Navio and Nigeria's P-Square, was said to be in the offing.
