Ghetto President Bobi Wine The self-styled "Ghetto President" is one of Uganda's top singers. Born on 12 February 1982 in Mpigi District, Bobi Wine (real name Robert Kyagulanyi) grew up from the slums of Kamwokya in Kampala. To make earn money to stay in school and make ends meet, he did odd jobs like laying bricks and vending water. With a walkman and a borrowed amplifier and speaker, he entertained fellow students for the small fee of 50 shillings (less than two U.S cents) each. And that was the start of his long and tortured musical journey that culminated into his first hit, akagoma (the drum), in 2000. In 2006, he won the coveted Artiste of the Year prize in the Pearl of Africa Music Awards.
Bobi Wine holds a bachelor's degree in music, dance and drama from Makerere University.
